Synopsis: Before scientists found the cure, people thought love was a good thing. They didn't understand that once love -- the deliria -- blooms in your blood, there is no escaping its hold. Things are different now. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the governments demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Holloway has always looked forward to the day when she’ll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.
But with ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable: She falls in love!
My Review: During evaluations Hana: Lena's best friend expresses some unusual symptoms that concern Lena but given the circumstances she overlooks the odd behavior. During a disturbance that halts the evaluations Lena notices a boy who seems to intrigue her. Out on a run a few days later Lena meets the mysterious boy again, this time she learns that his name is Alex, a cured 19 year old part time security guard trying to put his self through college and that she too has peaked his interest, so much so that he nonchalantly invites her to meet him at sunset. Over come with these new emotions Lena lies to her aunt and rushes off to meet Alex who has stood her up.
Putting the boy behind her Lena moves forward counting down the days till she becomes cured.
Having finally graduated from school another summer is now in full swing this will prove to be the most unforgettable summer ever. Hana begins acting out, doing things that are against the law. When Hana decides to go out after curfew on the fourth of July Lena takes it upon herself to do the same so that she may talk some sense into her friend, it is at this gathering that Lena meets Alex yet again, this is the night that will trigger a chain of events for Lena.
Lena soon learns that Alex has lied to her so she puts some much needed distance between them, she spends time focusing on her work family and her new evaluations. When the results come in she knows the life path that has been chosen for her. Just seven weeks till she is CURED!!! less than two months till she is safe from danger.
A chance encounter changes Lena's perspective on life and the rules she has grown to survive under. Will she become just another statistic or will she succumb to the deliria. A question that can only be answered by loosing yourself in this book.
I have only recently stepped out of my reading comfort zone and started exploring other forms of characterization this will easily be listed as one of my top 10 non paranormal reads. I say non paranormal because to me the idea of this book is something I can imagine being real, people in the world being treated like puppets at the hands of a controlling government.
Great review, I loved Delirium :) Totally left me breathless and shell shocked when I finished lol.
