...I asked Sidney how she would feel if her book was ever optioned for film, below is her response...
If My Book Is Ever a Film – A girl can dream, right?

When I saw this question pop up, I just had to answer it. Who would I like to see play my characters? Funny thing is, when I look for images of my characters, I deliberately avoid those of celebrities and opt for unknown models from stock photos instead. After the characters get more developed, though it gets a little easier to pick out who’d play my characters best. It’s every author’s dream to see their characters live on the big screen, right? Gosh, I hope so, or I am indeed weird.

So let’s get this show on the road.

Lucy Gregory is the heroine from Demons Prefer Blondes. She’s a no-nonsense, quite sarcastic, hairstylist who just happens to be a half-succubus. She doesn’t discover this, however, until she accidentally unleashes a legion of demons in her suburban hair salon. She’s got shoulder length, stylish hair and greenish-gold hazel eyes.  She’s beautiful, but not full of herself. Matter of fact, she doesn’t really see herself as beautiful at all—until her transformation, that is. Then there is no denying her steamy sensuality. Jessica Biel would make a great Lucy. She’s played some straight-forward, sarcastic roles and has the look I saw Lucy having. And we can’t deny that Jessica is gorgeous.

Now, for Rafe. This is going to be a little trickier. He’s pretty stony and reserved. He’s got a muscular body with shoulder-length, uber-gorgeous dark hair. To make things even more complicated, he’s got silver eyes. Thank god for contacts—and hair dye, of course. I could totally see Australian actor Dustin Clare playing Rafe Deleon. For those who are unfamiliar with Dustin, he plays Gannicus on Starz’s Spartacus Gods of the Arena. The penetrating gaze in this picture says it all.

Yummy, right?

I even found someone who could play my bad guy, Belial, the leader of the Infernati. Belial has blonde hair and can be swank and debonair. He’s attractive, if you can get past the stench of brimstone that clings to him. As much as I love Paul Bettany, he can definitely play a bad guy. Who can forget that creepy performance in The Davinci Code?

So if you’ve written a book, who would you cast as your hero and heroine? Or if you’re a reader, who would you cast in your favorite book?

DEMONS PREFER BLONDES BY SIDNEY AYERS – IN STORES JUNE 2011

A Bad Day For A Demon
Rafe Deleon is a senior demon and he resents like hell his assignment to Earth to retrieve the Chest of the Damned before it falls into the wrong hands. But then he meets beautiful, intriguing succubus Lucy Gregory, and she’s just unleashed a whole load of trouble…

Really Sucks For A Succubus
Lucy’s chic suburban beauty salon has suddenly become the Underworld’s center of mass chaos and destruction. The only good thing in a day going rapidly down the tubes is the arrival of a gorgeous demon who’s adamant that he can help her…

But Lucy has quite a few deeply unpleasant—not to mention deadly and hateful—surprises ahead of her, and surely there’s never been a worse time to try out a new boyfriend…

  1. I always cast my characters, and not because I ever think my books will end up as movies, but because my brain only works that way, LOL. Embarrassing admission time: all my male characters would be actors who appear on CW shows. I love me some CW guys, especially the yummy Jensen Ackles of Supernatural. :-)

  2. Sidney - I always have specific people in mind when I write my books. Currently, my heroine looks like Avril Lavigne and the hero is Matthew Goode.

    Fun post!

  3. What a question! Okay...I'm gonna be the dork because I just changed from character's job from a cop to an FBI BAU becuase of Aaron Hotchner on Criminal Minds. Love him and I can see my guy just like him. Tough and holds back emotion... Great post by the way.

  4. Rosalie, gotta love Jensen Ackles. Then again, Jared Padalecki isn't that hard on the eyes either. Go Winchesters!

Robin, Avril Lavigne has a dark and mysterious look to her, and I could totally see her as a heroine in a book. I'm not familiar with Matthew Goode, so off to do some research on IMDB. Oh... a Brit! Which means he must have a sexy accent :-)

Hey Karen! Happens to the best of us. The guy in my current book resembles Ryan McPartlin who plays Devonon Chuck. He even is a cardiologist too!

  5. I normally go with the stock photos too - and shy away from actually having a celebrity in mind. But, I do love your choices! :)

  6. It's always hard to cast your own books!!!

Plus I cheat and say "He looks like Antonio Banderas in Assassins."

Because if we're dreaming the star can be any age, right? What's time travel between friends? LOL

    Fun blog Sidney!!!

  7. All right, I'm going to be the odd ball here. I generally don't pick my characters until the story is well developed, and then usually they are models. However, if I have to pick celebrity actors and actresses, I'm partial toward Bollywood celebrities. I find them gorgeous - male and female both and sensuous too.

  8. I have to cast my hero, heroine and villain(s) before I write or in the brainstorming stage otherwise I can't really get into the characters. My current manuscript started out with one actor as my hero and no matter what I did I just didn't like him in that role. So I went on my own version of a "casting call." My current hero would be played by Paul Walker and the heroine would be Anne Hathaway.

For the record, Rosalie, Jensen Ackles is HOT and don't you can't be embarrassed until your heroes start coming from reality shows...like my next 2 heroes!

Karen, I never used to like Hotch much, but he's definitely grown on me as a hero. Good choice!

Sidney, great casting for your story too!

  9. I rarely have more than a vague idea of what my characters look like. Once I tried doing a collage to help me with my plot, and the people I chose for the hero and heroine were models in magazine ads. The hero wasn't even looking at the camera, but there was something in his body language that made me say, "That's the one!" It was his vibe rather than his looks that appealed to me.

  10. I have visuals of my characters selected prior to the start of writing, and also complete a short character bio for each so I can really get into the "character" of each character while I write. I find having images in sight really helps inspire me.

Sometimes I choose photos of celebrities especially if they have played a role similar to that of the character. Other times I find random photos from the internet, magazines, or newspapers. That way I don;t have any pre-conceived notions and can craft the character just the way I want them to be.

Best of luck on the release of your new book.

  11. I usually have a particular actor in mind. Rodrigo Santoyo or Johnny Depp are the hero and villain. I like to put them on super slow motion on my computer so I can watch every detail, twinkle of the eye. So much easier with actors who move than working from a photo.

But dreams, too. Every one of my stories has come to me in a dream.

  12. I LOVE your choices! Especially Dustin. Sigh... I too look through stock photos and not celebrities, at first anyway. What a fun interview!! ;0) Congrats on your book. Sounds really great!

  13. I always have a picture in my mind of the characters and that would make it difficult to choose actors/actresses to portray them. Believe me, though, if I had a book optioned for a movie, I could come up with names!

  14. For the lead characters in my first three (unpublished) novel ms. --- Kelly R. and Mitch -- I've envisioned a younger Diane Lane and a MUCH younger Harrison Ford.
But by the time I ever get any of them published and on the silver screen, both of them will be WAY too old to play my characters. In fact, Harrison might be good as the crusty landlord by that time. LOL

  15. That's a really tricky question! I'm not sure who I'd pick to play my characters, but I love your choices!
