Media Monday

This is a way for us to feature, review and honor all things media that interest us, whether it be movies, music, social sites, or places and events that interest us.

This weeks Media Monday Feature is.......... The Houston Rodeo

The Houston livestock show and rodeo is a tradition that started 78 years ago.  Since its start the rodeo has made an impressive footprint on the livestock and entertainment industries and in the sport of rodeo. It also has played a notable role in enhancing the lives of thousands of young people in the state of Texas.
The first entertainer to perform a live concert as part of the event was the legendary Gene Autry (the singing cowboy) in 1942, also that year the calf scramble was added to the events.
In 1957 Houstonian Ben Dickerson is presented the first educational scholarship in the amount of $2,000
One of the most anticipated pre rodeo events each year is the world championship Bar-B-Que cook off contest, which was started in 1974.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the world’s largest events of its kind, the goal of the committee is to fund furthered education for our youth through the scholarship program.
Each year the performing lineup is one of the biggest to be held in one place. To donate, volunteer or just read more about a great program please check out the website. To view the 2011 star line up click here
